Description

The Castrol Cresta PG range of polyalkylene glycol based compressor lubricants are formulated expressly for the compression of hydrocarbon gases. The ability of these lubricants to withstand dilution by dissolved hydrocarbons allows these lubricants to give excellent protection in oil-flooded screw compressors and in the cylinders of reciprocating compressors. Cresta PG oils contain rust inhibitors, anti-wear and boundary lubrication additives to protect compressor components against corrosion and scuffing. In addition, Cresta PG lubricating oils are inhibited to provide further protection when hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is present. Viscosity is the most critical requirement when lubricating hydrocarbon gas compressors, to ensure that a lubricant film of sufficient thickness to resist mechanical forces and hydrocarbon dilution is present, even at compression temperatures. To select the optimum lubricant, we require details of the compressor operating conditions and a complete gas composition including the amount of each component present. Water, hydrogen sulfide (sour gas), asphaltenes or other trace contaminates, including possible solids, must be considered.
